PHIVOLCS – Kanlaon Volcano Made 104 Earthquakes In Last 24 Hours
KANLAON VOLCANO – The Philippine Institute of VKANLAON VOLCANO – PHIVOLCS recently recorded around 104 volcano-tectonic earthquakes at Kanlaon Volcano over the past 24 hours.
The institute said that one earthquake was recorded at 5:07 AM on Monday that was recorded at magnitude 3 and felt at Intensity II in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, according to a report from Inquirer.
It added that it observed “weak emission of white steam-laden plumes” that rose up to 300 meters and drifts northwest and southeast.
Meanwhile, sulfur dioxide (SO2), a gas component of magma, was at an average of 438 per day on June 13.
Since April 2020, there is a slight deflation of the volcano’s lower and mid slopes.
“These parameters indicate that hydrothermal or magmatic activity is occurring beneath the edifice,”
Based on the report, he volcano is under Alert Level 1. This would mean that it is currently at an “abnormal condition and has entered a period of unrest.”
The institute reminded public and local government units that entering the four-kilometer permanent danger zone of the volcano is strictly prohibited,
