Underpriced Face Masks Worth P21 Million Confiscated By CIDG

UNDERPRICED FACE MASKS – The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group recently seized underpriced face masks worth P21 million in Taguig City.

CIDG director Major General Joel Napoleon Coronel said that his men tracked down the rumored illegal activity of two suspects from a tip-off, which disclosed that the purchase of KN95 face masks is done via phone calls and text messages.

The suspects are identified as James Zhu and Charles Lee.

“The confiscated face masks have a market value of P105 each, however, to sell it instantly and quickly, the arrested persons sell it at a cheaper price of P45 each,”

The operation was executed on Friday evening (June 19 at the AKH Construction Plant, Lusacan, Barangay Wawa in Taguig City via a transaction of a poseur-buyer for purchasing face masks worth at around P9 million.

After the transaction was completed, the two were arrested.

Based on the report, seized from the suspects were 200 boxes, containing 1,000 pieces of KN95 facemask each, and entrapment money of P1,000 bill dusted money and boodle money that seemed like it was nine million.

The suspects are now under the custod of CIDG and will be charged for violating Republic Act 11469 or the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act), RA 11332 or Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern Act, and Article 151 in relation to Art. 14(7), both of the Revised Penal Code (RPC).
