15 MRT-3 Maintenance Workers Found Positive For Coronavirus

15 MRT-3 WORKERS POSITIVE – According to the Manila Metro Rail Transit System (MRT) management, 15 workers of MRT-3’s maintenance service provides tested positive for COVID-19.

However, they clarified that the interaction between the positive workers and other personnel were “very limited” at the depot and personnel at the stations. Following this, the management said they would also conduct Rapid Antibody Testing on all of their personnel on June 18.

But, Rapid Antibody Testing would only confirm whether or not a person had developed antibodies for the new coronavirus. Still, according to an article from the Medical City Clinic:

“The COVID-19 RAT (Rapid Antibody Test” CANNOT be used as a standalone test to definitively diagnose COVID-19 as rRT-PCR test remains to be the gold standard in determining whether a person is infected or infectious”

Meanwhile, the 15 passengers who tested positive for the virus underwent the PCR test as opposed to the RAT their co-workers would take.

In lieu of this incident, netizens were concerned about their safety in public transportation such as the MRT. One netizen was worried that the maintenance crew was in-charge of disinfecting the train, which meant they touched the surfaces of the seats, handlebars, and doors. However, ABS-CBN reporter Jacque Manabat emphasized that they were not.
