Following Hontiveros’ Statement, Roque Insist POGO Taxes Are Being Collected

POGO TAXES – Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque insisted that unpaid taxes from Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators or POGOs are being collected by the government.

Recently, Senator Risa Hontiveros made a statement criticizing the government for planning to impose taxes on online business sellers. Hontiveros then highlighted that the government should collect the unpaid taxes from POGOs instead.

“Imbes na online sellers, baka puwedeng singilin muna ang mga POGO na may P50 billion in unpaid taxes?”

Hindi ‘yung dagdag-perwisyo pa sa sarili nating mga kababayan na kaunti na nga lang ang kita para pandagdag-gastos sa pamilya nila.

But, based on a report from GMA, during a televised briefing, the spokesperson stated:

Sinisingil po natin Senator [Risa] Hontiveros. Hindi po natin sila pinalulusot. Hindi po sila pupuwedeng magbukas hangga’t hindi sila nagbabayad ng kanilang mga buwis

Furthermore, Roque said that the government is utilizing all sources of funds in order to fight the coronavirus epidemic in the Philippines.
