Senator Ping Lacson gave his reaction to Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray’s #JunkTerrorBill campaign.

Catriona is one of the celebrities in the Philippines who expressed their views against the Anti-Terrorism Bill. Through her Instagram post, she encouraged everyone to take a stand and make their voices be heard. She also used the hashtag “junk terror bill” in her post.

In line with this, based on the report from GMA News Online, Senator Lacson reminded the beauty queen that the law in Australia is much stricter than in the Philippines. Catriona is half-Australian.

“Ang Australia, very strong democracy kaya medyo ano ako, with all due respect kay Miss Universe Catriona Gray, ’di ba Australian siya? E kumokontra rin siya pero [ang] batas sa Australia mas matindi sa batas natin,” the lawmaker said during a recent radio interview.

He added that the Anti-Terrorism Bill is derived from the law in Australia. Lacson also said that they had be communicating with Australia, as well as with the US Embassy because the Philippines can’t do it alone as the new law is needed to be based on the universal standard.

The lawmaker also cited that they patterned the detention period on the existing laws in Australia and Sri Lanka. He also said that lawmakers aim that the Philippines will not a safe refuge for terrorists.

Based on the report, the proposed bill is already passed to Malacanang and within 30 days, President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to act on this.
