ANTI-TERROR BILL – Here are the acts which are considered under the “terrorism” category according to the controversial Anti-Terror Bill.
Protests and other movements were administered across the country as President Rodrigo Duterte certified the Anti-Terror Bill urgent. This is amid the battle against the pandemic.
Many people felt like this bill would only be abused by the powerful ones and would only be used against the people who are critical of the present administration. Under this bill, if passed into law, comes along restrictions and among other new rules which many people are against of.
According to the section 4 of the said controversial Anti-Terror Bill which is now in line up waiting for president’s signature, here are the acts which will be considered as a form of “Terrorism”:
- doing acts with the intention to kill or seriously injure any person
- act of damaging or destructing a government or public facility, public place or private property
- acts with the intention to “cause extensive interference with, damage or destruction to critical infrastructure”
- developing, manufacturing, possessing, acquiring, transporting, supplying or using of weapons, explosives or biological, nuclear, radiological or chemical weapons
- doing destructive acts in form of releasing dangerous substances, or causing fire, flood, or explosions which can ignite public fear, provoking government, and among other aftermaths (the severity of this act will have a punishment of lifetime imprisonment without parole)
In the bill, it has been indicated and specified what acts are considered as “terrorism”. Any person who will commit violation, as per section 5 of the Anti-Terror Bill, will be punished up to 12 years of imprisonment.
