CIDG Arrested Wildlife Poachers In Alijis, Bacolod City

BACOLOD CITY- The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) recently nabbed three suspected wildlife poachers in Bacolod City.

They were captured in an entrapment operation on Friday, June 5, in Barangay Alijis in the capital of Negros Occidental, according to an article from SunStar.

They were identified as Ramel Cabale, aged 45, Ruzzel Taghoy, aged 27, and Dexter Belleza, aged 36., All three are residents of Barangay Minoyan, Murcia.

Recovered from the suspects were the following:

  • Philippine orange tarantula
  • Orphnaecus sp.
  • assorted centipedes and millipedes
  • juvenile Philippine sailfin lizards
  • Negros forest dragon (gecko)
  • Bornean anglehead lizards
  • north Philippine temple pit vipers

Other species like the Asian palm civet, two Negros forest dragons, sailfin lizard and anglehead lizard were already dead upon retrieval and were properly buried at Cenro Bago grounds.

Based on the report, the operation was led by Police Chief Master gt. Ramiro Gocotano, OIC of CIDG- Bacolod. The added that they agreed to pay 150,000 for all the animals, which happened to be the asking price of the dealer.

The three poachers were filed for violating Republic Act 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act of 2001.

The surviving creatures were released back into the wild at an undisclosed location in a protected area.
