LGU Announces Boracay Beach Will be Open to Residents Starting June 1
MALAY, AKLAN – Residents of the island should be allowed to swim on the Boracay coast from June 1, said Atty. Selwyn Ibarreta, Friday.
According to the Chairman of Technical Working Group, Atty. Selwyn Ibarreta, said “swimming” is permitted in areas under the Modified General Quarantine Community (MGCQ) only to ensure Physical Distancing as based on the Omnibus Guidelines of the National Inter Agency Task Force (NIATF).
However, the Malay IATF or Mayor Frolibar Bautusta still needs to issue an Executive Order, said Ibarreta. Ibarreta clarified that they are now meeting with the Malay IATF.
They are polishing the policies and protocols to be implemented in entering and exiting the island of Aklanon (Aklan residents), based on the report of Radyo Todo. It is possible that only Malaynons (Malay residents) will be allowed to travel to the island first because they still need to conduct a dry run.
Surveillance teams also need to be prepared to perform contact tracing in the event if one of the visitors shows coronavirus disease (COVID-19) symptoms. Also if one of the visitors had been test positive with the disease the operation will be immediately stop.
In addition, local government and the Department of Tourism (DOT) will further assist the accommodation establishment operators to ensure that they have complied with the protocols. When it is ready they will gradually allow the mainland Aklanon to enter the island first.
