California Council Supports ABS-CBN, Says It Gives OFWs “Connection To Homeland”
CALIFORNIA COUNCIL – The City Council of Daly, California said it supports the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN.
As such, they urged lawmakers to grand the media company a renewed 25-year franchise license. The council explained that this would give thousands of Filipinos abroad a “connection to the homeland”.
According to an article from ABS-CBN, around 34 percent of the City’s population have Philippine roots. In lieu of this, the city has become one of the largest Filipino settlements in the United States.
Moreover, the council emphasized that marginalized Filipino communities abroad should have access to information during these times of crisis as the world battles a deadly pandemic. As per the article, the Daly council stated:
Without ABS-CBN present in the Philippines, there will be a void for so many, and a feeling of losing a piece of themselves as it has been such an integral part of millions of Filipinos’ daily life
Furthermore, the council hoped that during the resumption of the hearing on Monday, they would take into account that “Filipinos are watching globally and that we are in full solidarity for a 25-year franchise agreement for ABS-CBN“.
Additionally, the letter read:
Without ABS-CBN present in the Philippines, there will be a void for so many, and a feeling of losing a piece of themselves as it has been such an integral part of millions of Filipinos’ daily life.
