3 Former Rebels Abducted By Suspected Rebels In Motiong Town, Samar
MOTIONG TOWN – Three former rebels were recently abducted bt suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Motiong town in Samar.

According to GMA News, the Philippine Army’s 8th Infantry Division reported the communist rebels abducted the ex-rebels identified as Cosme Cabangunay and his two children Jevie Cabangunay and Jason Cabangunay.
They were former rebels who surrendered to the authorities and are working as part of Motiong Peacebuilders., a group composed of former rebels who are working for peace and development in their locality.
The Military added that Vilma Gabane, chairperson of Barangay Canvais was the one who reported the incident. Gabane said that about five armed men stormed the Cabangunay residence and abduct the 3 said ex-rebels.
Commander of 87th Infantry Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Reynaldo Balido Jr. denounced the incident and called it a heinous crime that is against International Humanitarian Law.
“We vehemently condemn this barbaric act of the NPA terrorists. They have victimized non-combatants. They abducted people who are working for peace in the locality,”
The victims’ families are now appealing for the release of the former rebels.
As per the report, 801st Infantry Brigade commander Colonel Camilo Ligayo also demanded the unconditional and safe release of the said abducted. He vowed that the government forces would do everything to rescue the three.
“It is with deep regret that the NPA terrorists have once again shown their evil ways by oppressing the ordinary people who want to live in peace. We assure the relatives that our soldiers will do everything necessary to pursue the perpetrators and bring them to justice,”
“To the communist NPA terrorists, the people of Motiong demand that you release the victims unharmed. You can embrace peace with us or face the fury and condemnation of the community as the government forces will relentlessly pursue you,”
