Three Suspected Rebels Arrested In Matalam Town, Cotabato
MATALAM TOWN – Three men who are suspected to be members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were arrested in Matalam town in Cotabato.
According to GMA News, Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) spokesman Major Arvin Encinas identified the suspected communist rebels as the following:
- Cirilo Amit, alleged finance officer of the communist group in the province
- Alex Zurita Sr.
- Roberto Limbaga Aspura
The 90th Infantry Battalion, as well as the Matalam Police security forces made an operation at Purok Kamon, Barangay New Alemodian after they received intel about the presence of communists in the said area.
Retrieved from the three were the following:
- one Norinco MP27 Caliber 45 pistol with two magazines and 17 rounds of ammunition
- a homemade revolver with 24 rounds 5.56mm ammunition
- two anti-personnel improvised explosive devices; six cellular phones
- one media pad
- a hard drive
- one power bank
- one USB flash drive
- a card reader
- 12 sim cards
- two mobile phone chargers
- one AM/FM radio
- cash worth ₱10, ₱435.00
- assorted documents
- assorted IDs
- medicines
- some personal belongings
As per the report, the suspects were taken to the 90IB headquarters for custodial debriefing.,
Lieutenant General Cirilito Sobejana, WestMinCom chief, said that the miliary will maintain its intensified operations against the communist group and other lawless elements in the region.
