8 Pregnant OFWs Gave Birth While Waiting for COVID-19 Results at Quarantine Facilities

Eight (8) out of nearly 100 pregnant repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have labor in no time in their quarantine facilities.

While waiting for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) test result, eight out of pregnant women have gave birth in their quarantine facility. Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) administrator Hans Leo Cacdac said midwives and nurses monitored new mothers.

“Kanina lang, naka-meeting ko ‘yung mga midwife, nag-uulat sila sa akin ng mga dinalaw nila. Meron tayong ganun para mabigyan ng payo at kaukulang atensyon ang mga buntis,” Cacdac said.

“Marami sila halos aabot ng isang daan. Tapos, walo na ‘yung nanganak,” he added.

According to Cacdac, the mothers were advised to stay in the quarantine facilities with their baby until the doctors had given notice if they could return home. According to the report of GMA News, other pregnant women in the facilities request prioritize their test results, so they stay home immediately and take better care of their pregnancy.

OFWs are only allowed to return to their respective provinces when they received the issued a certificate of their COVID-19 test from the Department of Health’s Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ).

Although the returned OFWs should only have 14 days in quarantine facilities as mandated to every returning OFWs, many lasted longer than one month in anticipation of the results of their COVID-19 test.
