MERALCO To Impose New Bill Based On Actual Reading Covering COVID Lockdown Period
MERALCO TO IMPOSE NEW BILL – Amid the coronavirus quarantine, the Manila Electric Co (Meralco) gave costumers a grace period for paying the bills.
However, on Monday, the Meralco said they would issue another bill in June based on actual readings using the meter. Along with this, the bill would be paid on an installment basis beginning on June 15 as per the order of the Energy Regulatory Commission.
According to an article from ABS-CBN, costumers of Meralco need not pay the bills from May 1 to May 31 which was based on an estimated average. Instead, the bill would be based on an actual reading which covers March all the way to the present.
As per the report, Meralco spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga said:
Yung bill para sa installment ipapadala po ‘yan ng hiwalay sa bill ng current June consumption. Ang mga hindi nakabayad ng 3 buwan, installment na po ‘yan starting June 15 hanggang November 15
(The bills that are going to be paid through installment will be separate from the current June consumption bill. Those who had failed to pay during the three months would pay the bill via installment from June 15 to November 15).
In addition, he noted that the important point is that the meter reading would be done. Along with this, he said that the zero percent installment would be imposed so costumers shouldn’t worry get shocked by the bill they received.
Previously, Meralco had already received flack for its initial average scheme for electricity bills. This average bill scheme was based on the last three months of electricity usage since physical reading was banned during the quarantine.
Meanwhile, customers that have already paid their dues would receive adjustments based on the actual meter reading.
