Harry Roque has this statement about allegations against Francisco Duque
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque slammed the allegations that President Rodrigo Duterte is planning to replace Health Secretary Francisco Duque III.
Roque previously contradicted the statement of Duque regarding the second wave of COVID-19 in the Philippines. “Medyo sintunado lang po siguro ang isa pero okay naman po ang orchestra,“ he said in a previous statement when asked about the pronouncement of Duque.
Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea and Senator Bong Go also opposed to what the DOH chief has previously stated.
Following the criticisms that the DOH chief received because of this, he was also criticized for the issue of overpriced medical equipment.
In line with this, based on the previous report, sources knowledgeable on this issue stated that the President is already scouting for someone who will be the next DOH Secretary.
However, in the recent statement from the Palace through Harry Roque, these allegations were slammed. The Presidential Spokesperson said that Cabinet members, and that included Sec. Duque will continue doing their duties as long as the Chief Executive trusts them, based on the article from Inquirer.
When asked about the reports stating the alleged plan to fire the Health Secretary, Roque said, “Wala akong alam sa artikulo na yan at paulit ulit ko pong sinasabi, kahit sino pa po sa Gabinete, we all serve at the pleasure of the Presidente. Kung nawalan po ng tiwala ang Presidente, anytime, any Cabinet member can be removed.“
He added that as long as an official is not being fired, that means the trust and confidence of the President is still there.
Since President Duterte assumed the presidency, he already fired several of his appointed officials.
