These 80 seafarers are still waiting for their COVID-19 test results
80 seafarers who are in quarantine in a hotel in Quezon City are still waiting for the release of their COVID-19 test results.
As it is mandated by the government amid the pandemic, OFWs and seafarers have to undergo quarantine and testing before they can finally go home to their families. However, several of them have aired their complaints on social media just like an OFW who posted the condition of the quarantine area designated to them. According to the OFW, the place was unsanitary.
A recent post on Twitter from Radyo Patrol Reporter Zhander Cayabyab, showed 80 seafarers pleading to the authorities to release their test results. Based on the post, they were in quarantine in a hotel in Quezon City since April 26.
That was a month ago and still they haven’t received their COVID-19 test results until now. A sign that one seafarer was holding stated, “Please listen to our needs.” Another one said, “ibigay niyo na ang result para makauwi na kami sa pamilya namin.”
One of them also said that the test results of those who came later than them were already released. “Kami ang tagal na namin dito, wala pa rin,” he added. Another sign that one seafarer was holding stated, “we need to go home.”
Here’s the video.
Meanwhile, a recent report stated that President Rodrigo Duterte said in a statement that the repatriated OFWs will be sent home within this week.
“Hindi katanggap-tanggap sa ating Presidente na matapos maglingkod sa ating bayan ang mga OFWs na napahiwalay sa kanilang mga pamilya, nalungkot at nahirapang magbayad eh ngayon lalo pang mahihirapan habang naghihintay ng kanilang results,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said.
