42 Barangay Execs Face Criminal Raps Over SAP Irregularities

SAP ANOMALIES – 42 Barangay officials are facing criminal charges over irregularities regarding the distribution of the cash aid under the Social Amelioration Program (SAP).

Amid the coronavirus crisis, the government has been distributing cash aid to thousands of families. However, even in these harsh times, there were other local government officials who allegedly tried to profit from the SAP.

As such, an investigation into the allegations led to some 42 LGUs facing criminal charges. According to an article from Inquirer. DILG Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said the charges were already filed before different prosecutor’s offices.

Moreover, according to the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) there were around 400 residents from different barangays who voiced complaints.

These residents noted alleged discrepancies in the distribution of cash aid under the SAP. Meanwhile, 93 other officials are also under investigation for alleged irregularities.

As per the article, Malaya stated that within the upcoming days, the DILG would double the number of sanctions for those having anomalies with the cash distribution.

Previously, the DILG had ordered the PNP to conduct investigations and the arrest of local officials allegedly conducting corrupt practices.
