Funds For Mass Testing In Philippines Not Covered By Bayanihan Act

MASS TESTING PHILIPPINES – After two months of being under the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ), Filipinos cry out for mass testing.

However, it was recently revealed by Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque that the government still had no plans for mass testing. Moreover, he said the responsibility of mass testings would be passed to the private sector.

Furthermore, Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel explained that there was no provision in the recently passed “Bayanihan As One Act” which makes mass testing a mandatory expense on government funds.

According to a report by Inquirer, Pimentel was corrected saying that the law required the government to “facilitate prompt testing by public and designated private institutions.

However, as per the report the Senator swiftly replied with:

Please point out where the phrase ‘mass testing’ is found. I haven’t seen the phrase yet

Currently, the Philippines has over 11,000 reported cases of COVID-19. Furthermore, the number of new cases averages at around 200 daily.

But, despite the continued increase in the number of cases, quarantine restrictions have began to ease in some areas. As such, concerns mounted due to masses of people once again gathering outside.
