Street Vendors May Go Back to Work Amid Modified Quarantine Measures

Street Vendors such as Balut and Taho vendors can now resume working under modified quarantine measures said spox, Harry Roque, Friday.

Spox Roque made the announcement in an interview on GMA Network’s Unang Hirit, a day before the modified quarantine measures implemented in some areas in the Philippines, industries are now allowed to resume operations but still observe the COVID-19 safety measures.

When asked if the vendors will be allowed Roque said: “Alam ninyo kasi kung pinapayagan na yung paglabas sa bahay para mag-exercise, tumakbo, magbisikleta, so sa tingin ko po pupuwede na basat huwag lang silang magkumpol-kumpol … iyan po ang iniiwasan natin.”

Masses and other religious gatherings were prohibited, schools were suspended, and several non-essential businesses temporarily stopped their operation due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Everyone is reminded to be extra careful, to wear a mask when going outdoors, and to only leave the house for very essential purposes.

As of now, The Department of Health (DOH) recorded 268 new cases of coronavirus in the country, May 14.  It brings the total to 11,618 now. Of this number, 2,337 recovered while 790 died.
