According to SunStar, the battle took place in the borders of Misamis Oriental and Agusan del Norte.
A series of gunfights started on Sunday, May 10, and ended on Wednesday, May 13, in the uninhabited and hinterland areas of Kamanikan village in Ginoog City.
The slain suspected rebels are said to beloong to the Guerilla Front Committee 4A (GFC4A) of the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC) of the New People’s Army.
Among them were identified as:
- Ian Dela Rama alias “Gian,” front secretary
- Rio Amor Yuson, finance officer of NCMRC
- Paquito Namatidong, CO of SPP Sikop, GFC4A, NCMRC;
- Peter Pinakilid, political officer of GFC4A.
The aforementioned fatalities were identified by former rebels.
“The death of high-ranking leader of GFC4A and NCMRC and their members attest that the CTG is at the brink of extinction,”
Recovered from the area were five high-powered rifles, two M16, AK47, M14, a carbine, explosives, communication gadgets and devices and documents.
Heavy bloodstains were also found along the direction of rebels who withdrew, hinting that there were more rebels that were wounded or killed.
As per the report, the battle was the result from a civilian report that the Maoist guerillas were spotted and extorted money and food from the communities.
“We have always been open and true to our commitment to helping them live a life they all deserve, yet despite our humble peace offering, they neglected our efforts towards building and attaining sustainable peace,”
“The bravery portrayed by the civilians has resulted in the successful major encounter against GFC4A in AgNor and MisOr provinces. Conflict-affected communities in the far-flung areas are now free from threats of the CTGs through cooperation with our government forces. We encourage our fellow countrymen to support our government forces in putting an end to the long-time armed struggle of our mislaid brothers with brought countless killing among Filipinos,”
Major General Franco Nemesio Gacal, 4ID commander
The 10 fatalities were turned over to the Gingoog City government for identification and decent burial.
