PAGASA – Signal No. 1 Raised Over MAny Areas, Tropical Storm Ambo Intensifies
PAGASA – Here are the latest updates from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) this May 13, 2020.
The state weather bureau recently raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 over areas of Eastern Samar and Northern Samar due to Tropical Storm Ambo.
According to GMA News, TCWS No. 1 was raised over the following areas:
- northern portion of Eastern Samar
- Jipapad
- Maslog
- Arteche
- San Policarpio
- Oras
- Dolores
- Can-avid
- Taft
- Sulat
- San Julian
- Borongan City
- eastern portion of Northern Samar
- Lapinig
- Gamay
- Mapanas
- Palapag
- Laoang
- Catubig
- Las Navas
The weather disturbance intensified further and will bring scattered light to moderate with occasional heavy rain showers during thunderstorms over the Eastern Visayas region.
The bureau urged residents in the said areas to take precautionary measures, coordinate with disaster and risk reduction offices, and stay vigilant for more updates.
In highly to very highly susceptible areas especially during heavy or prolonged rain fall, flash floods or landslides might occur.
The eastern seaboard of Bicol Region and the northern and eastern seaboards of Eastern Visayas might face rough seas, making sea travel risky.
As per the report, Tropical Storm Ambo is heading north to northwestward over the Philippine Sea east of Samar Island.
Ambo is expected to further intensify as it heads to Eastern Visayas-Bicol Region area.
It was last spotted at around 410 kilometers east of the city of Borongan, Eastern Samar.
It is packed with maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour and gusts of about 105 kilometers per hour. It is moving north northwest at about 15 kilometers per hour.
Eastern Visayas, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate will expect moderate to heavy rains on Thursday.
Ambo-associated strong to near-gale force winds is expected to affect the areas under TCWS on Thursday afternoon.
