Camp Karingal Place Under Lockdown As Personnel Test Positive For COVID-19
CAMP KARINGAL ON LOCKDOWN – The Headquarters of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has been placed under a three-day lockdown.
Quezon city was previously the hotspot of COVID-19 in the Philippines with more than 1,500 cases. However, the spot was taken over by Cebu City on Sunday.
Similarly, Zamboanga City also faced-off with COVID-19 being widely spread within its Reformatory Center. This time, 14 individuals including 6 jail personnel and 8 detainees tested positive for the virus.
The city also has several reported cases of local transmissions of the virus. As such, even frontliner policemen have been infected with the virus. According to a report from GMA, 14 personnel from the QCPD and one soldier from the Joint Task Force tested positive.
Following the confirmation of infections, the COVID-19 positive personnel have been placed under isolation. Additionally, contact tracing efforts have been initiated by the authorities for those who have come in close contact with the personnel.
Currently, the Philippines has documented a total of 10,794 COVID-19 cases . Along with this, the virus caused 719 deaths. Meanwhile, the number of recovered patients has risen to 1,924.
Due to the increased number of cases, the Philippine government has contemplated on whether or not to extend the quarantine. However, even with strict quarantine measures, the Philippines had reportedly been ineffective against handling the virus.
