According to a report from Inquirer, this is one of their measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

The internet giant’s chief executive Sundar Pichai said in a meeting that they will extend their remote work policy until 2021.

The company added that any return to offices was expected to be incremental and staggered.

This report came along with reports that social media giant Facebook also allow its employees to work from home until the end of the year.

As per the report, for Google employees who need to return to their offices will be able to do that in the next month or two. Safety measures are already in place due to the virus. Most of the employees, on the other hand, will continue to work remotely.

Meanwhile, the updated plan of Facebook is to re-open offices in early July, but allows their staff to work from home if they choose to until 2021.
