BRAINTEASERS |As I Was Going To St. Ives Riddle – Answer And Explanation
BRAINTEASERS – In this topic, we are going to know the answer and explanation of the “As I was going to St. Ives” brainteaser.
The Oxford dictionary defines brainteasers as problems or puzzles, typically those designed to be solved for amusement. It is the informal term of puzzles, problems, or riddles.
It is a type of puzzle where it is hard to find the answer but amuses people as they try to solve it. The problems seems simple enough but tricks you into answering the wrong question.
Here is yet another of these riddles that we are going to answer and explain. Here is the following riddle:
“As I was going to St. Ives,
I met a man with seven wives. Each wife had seven sacks. Each sack had seven cats. Each cat had seven kits. Kits, cats, sacks and wives. How many were going to St. Ives?“
This actually looks tricky at first glance but the answer is very simple and so is the explanation behind it. The answer is…. Only one person was going to St. Ives: Me. I was going to St. Ives.
Explanation
Yes it is simple. The reason that it is a bit tricky is due to that long red herring it placed in the following lines. People would usually compute how many were going to the place.
However, it was not mentioned in the question that they were coming along with me, nor do they plan on going there. It is clear though that only I was going to the place as mentioned in the first line.
