IMELDA PAPIN – Beauty queen Maffi Papin Carrion defended her mom Imelda Papin from internet bashers in connection with Chinese embassy’s COVID-19 unity song ‘Iisang Dagat.’

In a previous article, Imelda Papin released a statement defending herself following the criticisms she received from her countrymen. The veteran singer maintained that ‘Iisang Dagat‘ is about ‘unity’ amid the COVID-19 crisis and said she did not receive any talent fee for the recording.

“Bakit i-criticize ang participation ko?… bakit hindi sila kumibo sa mga tulong na binibigay ng China,” she said.

On Sunday, April 26, Manila Bulletin had an exclusive interview with Imelda Papin’s beauty queen daughter Maffi Papin Carrion. She defended her mother from the bashers.

“People judged prematurely before fully understanding the song. And it truly breaks my heart with how they are reacting. I understand having the freedom of speech which everyone is entitled to on any level. However when you start condemning people that is a different story,” she said.

Based on the report, Imelda Papin’s daughter linked the Chinese Embassy’s COVID-19 unity song to Lea Navarro’s song “Isang Mundo, Isang Awit.” She said she was honored that her mother was chosen by the Chinese Ambassador to take part in the music video.

“Ang awitin na ‘Iisang Dagat’ is about pagkakaisa, pagtutulungan, at pag-asa. Parang ‘Isang Mundo, Isang Awit’…”

“Sa lahat na singers sya ang pinili. Ano’ng masama po doon, artist sya? Secondly, maganda naman ang lyrics – its all about unity- pagkakaisa, pagtutulungan at pag asa. Eversince, unity has been her advocacy kaya tinanggap nya po ang project.”

“I found out about the song the same time my family did. There’s no insensitivity within the song. It doesn’t criticize the Philippines at all. It’s all about unity and I cannot emphasize that enough,” she added.
