Residents of Nasugbu, Batangas blocked a convoy of about 300 returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar arrived in the Philippines this Wednesday on the fear that they have carry virus.
On the 13 buses, they would be heading to some resorts in Lian, Batangas, where they would be placed under the 14-day quarantine required by all travelers back home, according to the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration
OWWA Administrator Hans Cacdac said the convoy of tired and hungry OFWs was forced to stop near a hotel in Nasugbu after residents stopped them at around 2 am. OFWs cannot stay there because there is another quarantine group there, as a result, OFWs were still stranded inside the bus at 6 am.
An OFW asks to hide his identity told ABS-CBN News that they waited more than half a day since they arrived in the Philippine. He added that they have not taken bath for 3 days since they left the Middle East
The OFW has called on local officials or accommodation owners in Batangas to arrest them during their quarantine. Cacdac went to Batangas to explain and apologize to the affected OFWs. He will also speak to Lian Mayor Isagani Bolompo to resolve the situation.
