12 SAP, 4Ps Recepients In Victorias City Caught For Illegal Gambling

VICTORIAS CITY – Twelve recipients of the SAP and 4Ps in Victorias City, Negros Occidental were arrested for illegal drugs and gambling.

A report from SunStar states that the operatives ftom the local City Police Station caught three male residents of Crossing Mallorca in Barangay 19 on Wednesday afternoon for playing “tong-its”.

Among the three were two beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) and one recepient of the social amelioration program (SAP).

All three received ₱6,000 each in cash assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Recovered from the three are one deck of cards, a table mat, and betting money of ₱3,560. They claimed that this is their “past-time” due to boredom caused by the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

Based on the report, earlier on Tuesday, six SAP recipients were also nabbed for playing “mahjong” in an operation conducted in Villa Victoria in Barangay 13.

Local police chief Lieutenant Colonel Eduardo Corpuz said that the suspects also received ₱6,000 each in SAP from the government.

Recovered from them were two sets of “mahjong” tiles, two table mats and betting money of ₱55. They will further face charges for illegal gambling.

On Monday, three more suspect were nabbed in a drug bust at Villa Miranda in Barangay 6A.

Like the aforementioned, they were also SAP recipients who also received ₱6,000 cash aid.

Recovered from them were seven sachets of suspected illegal drugs, which worth at about ₱20,000, ₱400 marked money, and ₱2,000 suspected proceed money.

The suspects refused to make a statement. They are currently detained at the police station and will be charged for violating Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
