According to SunStar, NOCPPO director Colonel Romeo Baleros said that he made a directive to all police heads in the province to impose strict border control measures.

Baleros also ordered officers to intercept all vehicles smuggling people into the western province of Negros, further warned to impound motor boats, bancas, and any land vehicle found doing so.

Despite the lift of some restrictions in the province after a drop of number of suspected cases, the border remains closed.

Provincial Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson earlier warned owners and captain of pump boats and fishing vessels against transporting passengers from Panay and Cebu islands without complying with the protocols imposed by the government.

“There are many Negrenses who are trying to find ways to return to Negros Occidental amid fears of the being infected by the coronavirus in neighboring provinces,”

As per the report, the governor further called on the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to activate the Bantay Dagat teams in order to guard coastlines against the entry of Negrenses without going through proper protocols amid the ECQ, which is in effect across the province.

He also warned to impound trucks who would also smuggle people.
