Parts of Leyte province hit by 3.8 magnitude quake
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported on Sunday, April 19 that a 3.8 magnitude earthquake hit parts of Leyte province.
It is a common knowledge to many people that among the natural calamities, earthquake can be the most devastating. Aside from the fact that it can’t be predicted prior to time that it will happen, unlike typhoons, the destruction it made in the past also took many lives.
In a recent advisory from the Phivolcs, another strong quake was felt in several parts of the province of Leyte in the Visayas region. The 3.8 magnitude quake hit the province at about 7:34 in the morning.
Based on the recent Twitter post of DZBB Super Radyo, the instrumental intensities recorded are:
- Ormoc City – Intensity III
- Naval, Biliran – Intensity II
- Borongan City – Intensity I
As of press time, no futher details yet have been reported regarding the said earthquake in Leyte.
Meanwhile, one of the strongest quakes recorded by Phivolcs was the one that happened in Davao Oriental with a recorded 7.1 magnitude. With earthquakes happening almost every single day around the Philippines, people have been fearing the “Big One“.
Experts said that this could be the strongest quake the country could experience with predictions that it could separate the Metro Manila from the nearby cities and provinces.
In line with this devastating calamity that could happen in the country, authorities have done several preparations. Information dissemination is one of the initial steps to make the public know what to expect and what is the first thing that is needed to be done.
