Resident in Murcia Chase DSWD Officials with Knife Due to Social Amelioration
MURCIA, NEGROS OCCIDENTAL – a resident allegedly chase DSWD officials after he was not qualified to avail social amelioration cash aid (SAP).
Under the social amelioration program of the DSWD, assistance will be given to low-income households, including senior citizens, persons with a disability, single parents, overseas Filipinos in distress, and pregnant mothers, who were affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.
However, not all families are able to avail of the government cash assistance due to the classification of life status, only selective individual is qualified to the social amelioration assistance.
Recently, a resident in Murcia, Negros Occidental runs amuck and allegedly chased the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) officials and barangay health workers with ‘plaminko’ (knife) after he was not qualified to get the assistance.
According to the interview, one of the official who encounter the resident said that the man asked them if they can avail the government cash aid because they are also affected by the health crisis. The spokesperson also asked him if his mother is a pensioner and how many live in the house.
The man answered that his mother is a pensioner and they are only two living in one roof. The spokesperson explained that his not qualified because pensioners are out of the list who can avail the cash aid.
Later on, the man shouted for his knife and allegedly chased them after rejected. The spokesperson added that the man was allegedly drunk. She told in the interview that the officials including her were trauma and shock about the incident.
The incident is now under investigation after they reported it to the Murcia police station. Meanwhile, she emotionally plead to the residents to understand them because they were only doing what have been ordered to them.
