CASH AID – About 14 million wage and salary workers would less likely to benefit from the cash aid program by the Department of Labor and Employment.

This was from a statement from Nagkaisa, a coalition of the country’s largest labor groups, who said that the programs from DOLE and DOF are not inclusive enough to cover about 28 million wage and salary workers, according to Business Mirror.

They noted the figures of Marikina Rep. Stella Quimbo, saying that about 9 million would be unaffected by the business disruptions due to COVID-19 since they still receive salaries since they work for the government or employed in essential services or private households.

The group added that another 3.4 million more is aimed by the subsidy program for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from the DOF. A million more will be aided by DOLE’s CAMP or COVID-19 Adjustment Measures Program.

“It also shows that only a fourth of workers in the formal sector are going to benefit from CAMP and the wage subsidy program,”

There will also be 16 million workers in the informal sector who will need help from the government during the crisis.

“Rather than continue its targeted approach which creates bottleneck and social divide, Nagkaisa is reiterating its call for income guarantees for all affected workers,”

As per the report, the group made the statement after DOLE made an announcement earlier this week that it stopped accepting new applications for CAMP due to shortage of funds.

Dominique R. Tutay, Labor Assistant Secretary Officer in Charge said that they already deployed about ₱1.2 billion to give aid to more than 236K workers.

Tutay added that more than 85K beneficiaries will be receiving the remaining ₱400 million of their CAMP benefits in the next days.
