Davao Mayor Orders No Free Hospitalization for ECQ Violators
DAVAO CITY – Mayor Sara Dutere orders that she will shoulder the hospitalization of enhanced community quarantine violators if got infected.
The Presidential daughter Mayor Inday Sara said that those who got infected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) by violating the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) protocol will not get government assistance if hospitalized.
According to the report of Davao City, Mayor Sara told the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) that the city government will not shoulder the medical expenses of infected patients if found out that they contracted the virus by violating EQC protocols.
“Kung natakdan ka og Covid-19 tungod nag-violate ka sa Enhanced Community Quarantine, dili mobayad ang city government sa imong pagpahospital (If you are infected with COVID-19 because you disobey the Enhanced Community Quarantine, the city government will not pay your hospital expenses),” Sara Duterte said.
Mayor Sara added that she couldn’t understand why there are still vehicles roaming around the city during the ECQ despite few establishments were open and only few employees are allowed to go to work.
“Most of the supermarket workers do not use these kinds of vehicles,” she said.
She also said that they are still free to use their Philhealth. However, violators will expect nothing from the city government if their hospital expenses exceed the amount covered by the insurance.
Mayor Sara was also confident that violators can afford their hospital expenses because they can afford to buy gasoline for their vehicles and travel amid the existing enhanced community quarantine.
“They can afford the gasoline of these vehicles so they should prepare for the payment of their hospital bills once they acquire COVID-19 from violating the protocols of the ECQ,” she added.
