PFDA Denies Refuse Entry To Fish Port Stakeholders With Lapsed Permits
PFDA – The Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) recently denied rumors that their Navotas Fish Port Complex management refused entry to stakeholders with expired permits.
According to Inquirer, the fisheries department said that it were made aware of the rumors that their Navotas Fish Port Complex management prohibited individuals from the port. It added that it, as well as the management of the said port, denied the allegations.
The agency added that the port management continues to serve the public and at the same time, promote the guidelines of the implemented enhanced community quarantine in Luzon.
In its part, it said that it will continue to issue needed permits to stakeholders with legitimate business within its ports, as long as the stakeholders observe health guidelines in their business operations. It added that it will still perform due diligence in evaluating permit applications.
“The public can rest assured that the PFDA will continue to implement the necessary measures in keeping with our commitment to contribute to fish accessibility and availability during this challenging time,”
As per the report, the Navotas Fish Port Complex opened on April 12 after the agency disinfected the port due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The Department of Agriculture said that about 70% of the capital’s fish supply passes through the complex. The complex also began rehabilitation and upgrading for the following three years in order to transform it into an integrated center for a variety of agricultural commodities.
