Accounts in Video Sharing App Zoom are on Sale on Dark Web
ZOOM ACCOUNTS – over 500,000 accounts of the video conferencing application Zoom are reportedly on sale on Dark Web for less than 1 cents.
Previously, Singapore has suspended the use of video conferencing application called Zoom after a “Zoombombing” incident occurs amid the geography lesson online. Is reported that two hackers have interrupted the online lesson displaying hate message and shouting profanities.
Meanwhile, in a report of The Star, a cybersecurity firm claimed that they had purchased about 530,000 accounts from a hacker on the dark web. The firm, Cyble, told the website Bleeping Computer that they purchased it for only 0.20 cents (0.80 sen) each.
They also claimed that it will use the info to warn its customers of the potential breach. Cyble said it was able to verify that some of the accounts are valid based on its customers’ info.
Based on the report, the accounts contain details such as email address, password, meeting web address and host key (the six-digit pin assigned to user hosting Zoom meeting). It is said that the host key allows a person to control a zoom meeting, including starting a live stream and ending it for all participants.
Cyble discovered that the accounts were being sold for others for malicious activities like “Zoom-bombing”. The firm explains that Zoom accounts are obtained by using usage details from other data searches, also known as ” credential stuffing attacks”.
