AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS Faster Than Intel i7-9700K?

Is AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS Faster Than Intel i7-9700K Desktop Processor?

AMD RYZEN 9 4900HS – AMD is clearly in the lead right now with their powerhouse desktop processors with the best price/performance ratios.

Compared to Intel’s entries, AMD’s processors offer the best bang for the buck. But, what about AMD’s laptop processors? Is it faster than Intel’s laptop processors as well?

According to an article from Tech Radar, it may even be FASTER than Intel’s high-powered desktop processor! Previously, AMD made some bold claims during CES 2020 that their Ryzen 4000 mobile processors were even faster than Intel’s 9th generation chips. Apparently, they were right.

In Cinibench R20, the AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS in Zephyrus G14 got 4,194 points. Meanwhile, the i7-9700K merely scored 3,726 points. However, the 4900HS is a hyperthreaded part while the 9700K just carried 8 single-threaded cores.

But, Intel’s desktop processor takes up about three times the power compared to the 4900HS. Intel’s chip uses up 95W TDP while the 4900HS take up about 35W TDP.

With AMD’s advantage in this area, the next test was done for the single-core. During the single-core test, Intel’s i7-9700K did win out against the 4900HS with 497 points.

However, AMD scored 481 points. But that just shows that Intel was just 3% faster than AMD even with a 60W lower TDP. Essentially, the AMD laptop chip could go neck-and-neck with the Intel’s desktop processor.

Even with the mobile form factor, the new AMD Ryzen 4000 chips are offering desktop-class performance and offered better battery life than gaming laptops. Meanwhile, Intel’s 10th generation Comet Lake-H chips are set to roll-out any day now.

As per the article, they still have a gigantic uphill battle against AMD if they want to stay relevant. Meanwhile, AMD’s 4000 series processors are also set to be launched this year.
