Department of Agriculture To Provide ₱5,000 Cash Aid To Rice Farmers

RICE FARMERS – The Department of Agriculture (DA) said on Sunday that it will provide at about ₱5,000 cash aid to 600K rice farmers.

The Philippine News Agency states that this is in order to aid getting their needs amid the enhanced quarantine,

William Dar, DA Secretary, said that the farmers will get it as a direct cash transfer they can utilize to buy farm inputs, as well as basic necessities.

The cash aid, known as Financial Subsidy to Rice Farmers (FSRF), it said that it is part of the department’s initiatives to assist them, especcialt those who plant about or less than a hectare, located in 24 provinces. The fund is designated under the 2020 General Appropriations Act.

“The FSRF is another intervention to further support our farmers who are experiencing the effects of the quarantine measures due to the Covid-19 pandemic,”

As per the report, via the Land Bank of the Philippines, the department will begin distributing the said cash aid to the said number of farmers.

Dar said that they vow to still aid farmers by enacting FSRF and RFFA, as well as major programs that could enhance the productivity and income of farmers.
