President Rodrigo Duterte releases a statement regarding the issue of Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

The online community cried foul when NBI summoned Mayor Vico for allegedly violating the quarantine protocol. With this, several netizens, as well as celebrities, rallied behind the Pasig City Mayor.

Because of this issue, the present administration received a massive amount of criticisms from netizens who wanted the President to step down. Amid this issue, the Duterte releases his statement.

Based on the article from PEP, the Chief Executive of the Philippines had a “special mention” of Mayor Vico Sotto during his speech on April 3.

“Ngayon yung kay Mayor Vico… Isang beses lang ako magsalita, yung pag-proclaim ko ng emergency. Sabi ko, ‘Huwag ito, huwag doon.’ Pagkatapos doon, wala na,” the President said.

Duterte also stated that he has nothing to with the decision of NBI. “Nandito lang ako. Wala akong pakialam sa operasyon ng NBI kung anong gusto. Karamihan mga abugado ‘yang mga ‘yan. Ang qualification kasi ng NBI abugado, e,” he said.

The President also said that his job description does not include the right to command authorities to investigate a certain person. “Wala akong… Kayo, huwag kayong…Hindi ako… Trabaho ng police ‘yan. Ang akin policy, sa taas. Ito, huwag ninyong gawin. Ito, gawin mo. Iyan. Ang mag-impose niyan police o military. Wala akong pakialam pagkatapos kung sino mahuli,” Duterte added.

Based on the article, the President told the public to stop intriguing him on the issue regarding the NBI’s invitation to explain sent to Mayor Vico Sotto.
