Residents Without Face Masks To Be Sent Home, Apprehended By Authorities

RESIDENTS WITHOUT FACE MASKS – As the number of coronavirus deaths in the country increases, wearing face masks outside became mandatory.

The death toll of COVID-19 in the Philippines had surpassed 100. In lieu of this, the Philippine government mandated all residents outside of their homes to wear face masks.

Based on a previous report, Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases spokesperson and cabinet secretary Karlo Nograles said that in areas under lockdown, those who go out to buy food are ordered to wear masks.

As Luzon was placed under an Enhanced Community Quarantine, residents are only allowed to leave for necessities such as food. However, based on a report from GMA, Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar stated that those without masks could be apprehended or sent home.

Meanwhile, during an interview with dzBB, he clarified that residents should wear “any” kind of face protection while outside of their residence. This is emphasized in areas covered by the ECQ.

Additionally, there has been a deny entry, apprehend, reprimand, or send home order to violators of the mandatory “wear face mask” policy. Furthermore, Eleazar urged local government units to pass ordinances to cover penalty and sanctions for violators.

However, with face masks being hoarded by several people, the majority of residents are left to use alternatives. Sadly, this offers significantly lesser protection than surgical face masks.

In lieu of the hoardings, the government had also ordered authorities to arrest profiteers amid the coronavirus pandemic. Based on previous reports, there have been several arrests already made by authorities.

Recently, two suspects were arrested during an entrapment operation for attempting to sell P294,000 pesos worth of face masks in Bulacan. They were charged with violating the Consumer and the Price Act.
