Senator Richard Gordon has this pronouncement regarding local government officials who are being lazy and not performing their duties efficiently amid the COVID-19 crisis.

In line with this, Senator Gordon encourage the people to report those officials who are not doing their duties to their constituents. “The local governments are the closest, if they don’t do their job, show the government. The government might show there will be a swift resort to enforcing the law. You became mayor, you became barangay captain meron kang command responsibility. You don’t do your duty, you’re out of the parade,” the lawmaker said during an interview with ANC.

The P275 billion budget that is intended for the poor amid the COVID-19 crisis will be allocated to barangay captains. However, Gordon said that if they are lazy and not fulfilling their jobs, “the system will have cracks.”

“They should not threaten, just charge them right away and replace them with who’ll do the job…All of us has got to push the envelope. Importante ‘yung magko-complain,” the lawmaker added.

Meanwhile, Senator Richard Gordon was asked about the statement of President Rodrigo Duterte to authorities to shoot troublemakers. The lawmaker said that the Chief Executive of the Philippines was just exaggerating as usual.

Gordon added that people should look at what the President really means. Civility and social cohesion are the things needed right now and not violence, he said. For him, the statement of Duterte is a sort of a factor pushing everybody to be efficient, based on the report.
