DILG says NBI Summon is Just Useless Political Distraction
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) spokesman said summoning Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto was a political distraction.
In a report of GMA News, Interior and Local Government Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said that the National Bureau of Investigation summon sent to the Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto was a useless political distraction during this time of health crisis.
“This act of summoning the mayor of Pasig is a useless political distraction on at this time when all of us are preparing and all of us cooperate to beat the COVID-19 crisis that we are in,” DILG spokesman Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya told CNN.
In our previous article, the National Bureau of Investigation Deputy Director and spokesman Ferdinand Lavin said that they have already sent the letter to the young mayor inviting him to appear at the NBI’s main office on April 7.
This is to clarify some things he did amid the lockdown such as allowing tricycle operation in Pasig despite public transportation suspension. Lavin said Sotto supposedly violated national government policies imposing strict quarantine under the “Bayanihan to Heal as One Act.”
But the mayor insisted that Pasig City comply with the government’s directive on the ban on all public transport including tricycles, after his plea to the government was denied. Sotto added that Bayanihan law passed just this March 24 and his plea and compliance happened around March 17 and March 18.
Meanwhile, according to Malaya, as far as the DILG is concerned the issue of using tricycle has been already resolved. Malaya added that the Mayor has already complied with the agency’s order. He also admitted that there were miscommunication and exchange of views between the DILG and Sotto.
