LTO In Bohol Says Social Distancing Applies To All Vehicles
BOHOL – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) based in Bohol says that the social distancing, limiting the number of passengers applies to all vehicles, not just motorcycles.
This was a statement from Vicente Gador, chief of Land Transportation Office Tagbilaran amiid cries from some motorists and their families to have it amended, according to a post from Bohol Chronicles.
Gador said that the policy imposed by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) urged the public to be a seat apart in all types of vehicles, among them include public utility vehicles (PUV).
All PUVs should accommodate at about 50% of its total carrying capacity, Gador said. Cars, on the other hand, should occupy four people, the driver, the passenger, and two directly behind them.
For jeepneys or multicabs, no one should sit across each other.
Gdor clarified that the “no-backrider policy” is among the social distancing means ordered by DOTr amid the COVID-19 threat.
As per the report, motorists plead for an exemption to allow married couples to travel on one motorcycle. However, it was immediately rejected by the agency.
Certain motorists have ranted that they share the same bed but not in the same motorcycle. Gador, however, said that it is not enough reason for imposing an exemption.
“Kung responsable sila na ginikanan ang pag dog pwede e-postpone, kay 14 days ra man ning pagpatay sa virus,”
Governor Arthur Yap, as well as government officials, tried to intervene on the exemption issue bbut the DOTr remained firm to impose the policy.
