ALCOHOL POISONING KILLS 27 – At least 27 individuals died from alcohol poisoning in Iran.
Iran had been the worst coronavirus-hit country in the Middle East. This caused fears and panic to spread throughout the nation.
According to a report from ABC News, some of the citizens of Ahwaz, Iran heard drinking alcohol could fight COVID-19. Sadly, they discovered that the rumor was fake way too late.
As the virus spread worldwide, rumors regarding unscientific treatments to combat the virus spread on social media. Among these rumors was drinking alcohol.
But, the problem isn’t with the drinking of alcohol. The problem was Iran banning alcohol. As such, Residents poisoned themselves after drinking alcohol made for sanitizing purposes.
As per the report, Ali Ehsanpour, spokesman of Ahwaz University of Medical Sciences said some victims went blind. Additionally, the rest were in critical condition.
Currently, Iran faces a variety of problems in controlling the spread of disease. These included shortages in medical equipment and staff.
Also, the international sanctions imposed by the United States have paralyzed the health system of the country. As such, the coronavirus outbreak caused over 429 fatalities.
Furthermore, the Health Ministry confirmed over 10,000 cases. Among the deceased were members of the parliament, a former diplomat, and a senior adviser to the Supreme Leader.
Meanwhile, COVID-19 infected more than 134,769 people worldwide. In addition, over 4,983 individuals died due to the virus. However, over 70,394 have recovered from the disease.
