Flash Flood In Bacolod City Left With Two Drowned

BACOLOD CITY – Two people drowned in flash floods during heavy rains in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental on March 6.

According to Panay News, among the two was Jake Lorence Tortogo, aged five months, of Purok Malinong, Barangay Taculing.

He was found dead along the shore of Purok Malipayon, Barangay 35 on March 7. The house of the Tortogo family was near a river that overflowed.

Jomarie Vargas, Executive Assistant and cluster head of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said that the water swept the house away during the flood.

He added that seven members of the family were able to swim to safety while their infant disappeared in the water.

As per the report, meanwhile, in Riverwalk in Barangay Vista Alegre, the body of Josephine Joven of Barangay Mandalagan was discovered on March 7. Joven was said to have died from drowning as well.

She was a caretaker of a house at Villa Angela Subdivision, Barangay Villamonte. According to the witnesses, Joven was swept by the strong current of the river in the barangay while crossing.
