Medical Intelligence Warns COVID-19 Expected To Become Pandemic Within 30 Days
COVID-19 EXPECTED TO BECOME PANDEMIC – As the spread of the new coronavirus, COVID-19 continued to affect more countries, experts believe that it’s likely to become a pandemic.
The National Center for Medical Intelligence (NCMI) raised the Risk of Pandemic Warning. According to an article from NewsWeek, the warning went from WATCHCON 2 (probable crisis) to WATCHCON 1 (imminent crisis).
Outside of China, countries like South Korea, Italy, Japan, and Iran have worsening cases of COVID-19. Meanwhile, previously untouched areas such as Mexico and Nigeria have had their first cases of the virus.
As per the article, COVID-19 had already touched every inhabitable continent. In addition, it had infected over 82,000 people worldwide since the viral outbreak began.
In the US, two cases of coronavirus were of unknown origin. That meant there was a possibility of community or local spread within the area. Along with this, a woman from Washington State became the first death in America.
It’s not so much a question of if this will happen anymore but rather more a question of exactly when this will happen and how many people in this country will have severe illness
However, the World Health Organization had yet to specify COVID-19 as a “pandemic”. The reason for this was changing its status would not progress response measures and could cause unnecessary fear.
But, Dr. Nancy Messonnier, CDC director of the Center for the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases said COVID-19 becoming a pandemic was “inevitable”.
