Sara Duterte reveals which received her support: “Yes to ABS-CBN franchise renewal” or “ABS-CBN Shutdown”

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte reveals side on the issue regarding the ABS-CBN franchise renewal in an interview on Thursday.

Her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, for the longest time, has expressed his desire to shut down the network. However, Spokesperson Sal Panelo said in a previous interview that the chief executive of the Philippines is still letting the House of Representatives to act on this matter.

Aside from this, the media company is also facing another problem as Solicitor General Jose Calida filed a petition before the Supreme Court to nullify the franchise of ABS-CBN. Calida is stressing out the alleged abuses like illegal pay-per-view offering and foreign ownership.

During the Senate hearing on February 25, ABS-CBN Chief Executive Officer and President Carlo Katigbak apologized to the President for not airing some of his political ads during the 2016 elections. Following this, based on the report from ABS-CBN News, Duterte accepted the apology from the network’s CEO.

In a chance interview in Sulu on February 27, Sarah Duterte, the daughter of the President, expressed her support for the Kapamilya network. “Davao City fully supports ABS-CBN sa kanilang pagpapa-renew ng kanilang franchise. Of course malaki din ang suporta ng ABS-CBN sa Davao City at sa buong bansa,” the Davao City Mayor said.

She is also hopeful that the issue of the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN will be resolved “in a very positive way”, based on the report. With regards Katigbak’s apology being accepted by the President, the Inday Sara said “Of course, alam niyo si President Duterte, maawain ‘yan na tao. Iniisip din niya ‘yung trabaho ng maraming employees ng ABS-CBN.”
