Cebu Pacific halts the online check-in for international flights
Cebu Pacific Online Check-In — The airline company temporarily halts the online check-in for international flights due to deadly coronavirus strain or COVID-19.
The company aims to prevent the spread of the virus, so passengers are needed to be checked in airport counters before they are allowed to check-in and their boarding passes will be given.
However, Cebu Pacific stated on its recent Twitter post that online check-in is still available for domestic flights. The company has previously stated that self-printed and digital boarding passes would be temporarily unavailable for both international and domestic flights.
“Hi everyJuan, online check-in is temporarily unavailable for international flights, as we have to check prior travel due to COVID-19. Please proceed to CEB airport counters for document check & to get boarding pass,” the post stated.
Based on the report from ABS-CBN News, inbound travel from mainland China is temporarily unavailable. Additionally, Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines also suspended flights to China.
On February 26, Manila has restricted people from traveling to South Korea. Outside China, it is one of the places that have the largest outbreaks, based on the report.
Previously Cebu Pacific reduced the rate of domestic fares. The COVID-19 has created a big scare to tourist and that affected the tourism industry in the Philippines. When news about the virus spread, tourism is one of the industries that felt first the impact of the virus.
“Through this increase in the supply of seats and fare reductions across our domestic route network, we hope to encourage Philippine residents to travel and explore the country,” Candice Iyog, vice president for marketing and customer experience of Cebu Pacific said.
