1,000 Hectares Benguet Forest Destroyed

At least a 1,000 hectares of pine forest have been destroyed in an ongoing forest fire near Mount Pulag Benguet that starts on February 20, 2020.

In our previous report, the forest continued to blaze over parts of Barangay Ambassador in Tublay town in Benguet on Saturday morning. The fire started on February 20, around 2:30 p.m., according to a spot report by the Bureau of Fire Protection in Tublay.

Up to 20 hectares of pine forest in Sitio Nalseb, Ambassador, Tublay, Benguet. The fire started in Barangay Adaoay and spread to Barangay Anchokey which was immediately extinguished, but it was again ignited by small fires. This time fire again broke out in Barangay Babalak, particularly in some parts of the popular Mt. Pulag.

Meanwhile, in an ongoing forest fire in Tublay Benguet, authorities decided not to declare a fire out on its side after an inspection conducted yesterday showed smoke emanating from the forest in Sitio Nasleb, Barangay Ambassador, as Philippine Star reported. As of yesterday, firefighters and police officers were trying to suppress the thinning fire, which could be fanned by the wind.

According to the report of GMA News, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Benguet, firefighters use a piece of wood instead of water hoses to stop the flames. The BFP allegedly struggled to prevent widespread bush and forest fire in this part of Barangay Kabayang, the report said.
