DOLE, DTI to Convince Honda Cars Philippines to Continue Production Over Shutdown Issue
Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will meet with the management of Honda Cars Philippines Inc. over the shutdown issue.
In our previous report, more than a hundred workers of Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) were shocked at the announcement that the Japanese company’s 28-year-old production plant in the country to close down next month.
HCPI released a press statement online hours later, saying its decision was made to optimize production in Asia and Oceania. They would also continue its automobile sales and after-sales operation in the Philippines.
Meanwhile, according to the report of GMA News, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is set to meet with the management of Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) on Monday morning after announcing the production operation shutdown in Laguna.
Labor Secretary Bello III said he will personally talk to the management of HCPI in Laguna, as Isa Avendaño-Umali on Dobol B sa News TV reported. DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez will also be present at the meeting, according to Bello.
The Labor secretary said on the report that they will discuss with HCPI management to know the reasons and what will be the possible impact of the closure. Bello said that the government officials will try to convince HCPI to continue its operation in Laguna to save the jobs of over 300 employees.
