Camalig Town Road Mishap Left With 16 Casualties
CAMALIG TOWN – An accident involving a bus and a passenger jeepney on a national highway in Camalig town, Albay left with 16 casualties.
According to Inquirer, a road accident occurred in the national highway in the said town. It involved a Raymond Bus and a passenger jeepney.
This left with a public school teacher dead while 15 more passengers were injured.
Local town police chief Major Dante Rosal identified the fatality as Lea Paliangayan, aged 49 and a resident of Guinobatan town. Paliangayan was a teacher of the Marcial O. Rañola Memorial School (MORMS) in Guinobatan.
He added that the accident occurred at about 5:50 PM along the Maharlika Highway in Libod village.
Police reports show that the passenger jeep, which has eight passengers and was driven by Jeason Nual, aged 38 from Daraga town, was heading for Legazpi city while the bus from Raymond Transportation, which also carried eight passengers and driven by Ranulfo Decano Jr., aged 41 from Gumaca, Quezon, was headed for Quezon province.
As per the report, the bus was about to overtake another vehicle when Decano lost control and sideswiped the jeep. It then crashed into a post and a coconut tree, which prompted it to overturn.
Agrepina Alpapara, one of the passengers was pinned inside the bus but was freed by members of the Bureau of Fire Protection Search and Rescue Unit.
The wounded passengers were taken to the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital here for treatment. Decano tokk himself to the police and was imprisoned at the station.
