According to the Philippines’ Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, it would be the country’s version of the “great sale” of other countries. Here, people fly in just for shopping.

Based on an article from ABS-CBN, malls across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao would participate in the month-long shopping event. Adding to this, an interview she stated:

We actually planned this months ago but we decided to continue it for the whole month of March

However, there is still the issue of the coronavirus outbreak that has spread worldwide to 29 other countries. With this in mind, Puyat said that participating malls would implement all measures required by the DOH to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Again, with the Department of Health, as long as precautionary measures are in place it’s okay to have that nationwide sale,

As per the article, Puyat stated that shoppers would be screened for body temperatures before they would be allowed inside the malls. In addition, disinfectants would be made readily available for shoppers.

The nationwide mall sale would be just one of the plans the Department of Tourism has to elevate the tourism in the country.

Last week, in a meeting with President Rodrigo Duterte, Puyat said local airlines and hotels have agreed to lower their rates to accommodate more tourists.

Unlike the SARS, H1N1 and the MERs there was no ban just precautionary measures, be careful. But now there’s a travel ban that automatically removes China market, Hong Kong market, and Macau market.

It is more of intensifying your marketing promotions to those countries that are not affected for them to know it’s safe, no local transmission here in the country
