COVID-19 Positive Filipinos Aboard Japan Cruise Ship Won’t Be Repatriated – DOH
COVID-19 POSITIVE FILIPINOS – The Filipino crew and passengers aboard the Japan Cruise Ship, Diamond Princess which tested positive for COVID-19 would not be repatriated according to the Department Of Health (DOH).
In a previous article, we learned that there were 27 Filipinos aboard the Diamond Princess who tested positive for the virus. All of which, were crew members.
Following this, the Philippine Embassy had been communicating with various groups to ensure that Filipinos aboard the cruise ship would be brought home. However, according to an article from Inquirer, this would not include the infected Filipinos.
In a statement, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said they won’t be brought home along with the others as they already showed symptoms.

As per the article, DOH Assistant Secretary Dr. Maria Rosario Vergeire said that the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases is still having a discussion regarding the possible repatriation.
But, Duque emphasized that those who tested positive for the new coronavirus are being cared for by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare.
Meanwhile, those who would join the repatriation would have to undergo another 14-day quarantine as they land in the Philippines.
During an interview, Duque was asked if the Filipinos arriving from the Diamond Princess would be put in the New Clark City. He answered that it would still be discussed in the meeting.
